Wrapping up June

This week felt a little crazy because Andrew worked a few swing shifts (going into work around 2 and then coming home around midnight). Even though the evenings were difficult, it was nice to have Andrew around during breakfast and he got to come and watch the kids at swim lessons for a few days.

We went to library story time, a friend's house, another splash pad, had a friend over to play, and spent lots of time outside. We made it to a couple parks and went on a few bike rides. Summer has been very mild so far, and I am loving it.

Adaline and Matthew had their second, and last, week of swim lessons, and they both did fantastic. They are both such little fish and getting more and more confident in the water. Matthew was resistant for the first few days of lessons, but by his last one he was having a blast. Adaline spent her last class jumping off the diving board 3 times and swimming back to the side and climbing out on her own. Her teacher recommended that she skip the the next level (level 2) and move on to level 3 the next time she take lessons. I'm still deciding whether to have the kids each do another round this summer or just wait until next year.
Passing the time during swim.
This was her first jump. Each one got better, and she ended with a pretty epic cannon ball

My kids are typically muddy, naked, and outside. Better than muddy, naked, and inside, right?

Staring down his food, deciding whether or not to eat it. Sometimes I'll just give him a spoonful to start with so I can see if he's going to eat it or throw it everywhere and waste it.

Somehow I washed an entire chapter book. I guess that's what happens when the kids help sort?? I don't even know! The whole load is covered in bits of fluff with the alphabet on it and I found pieces of the plastic cover and spine. And, of course, the lint trap was full beyond capacity after drying it all.

Alex constantly makes this face and the sound that he puts with it. It's so cute

Went on a bike ride during dinner time because Andrew was at work. It was fun that all of the kids can ride independently and enjoy it. I felt like I had reached a new stage of parenting and I loved it. It didn't hurt that the weather was absolutely perfect either.

Seeing him snuggle his bunny kills me

Okay this is a weird one...It's midnight and I have been asleep for about 30 minutes, and Andrew is at work. I hear Adaline start doing the "potty cry" the one that tells us she needs to go to the bathroom but is struggling to wake herself up enough to go. When we hear this we go running and usually find the kids trying to stand up on their beds, trying to find the door, or looking like their about to pee in a corner. It was a little odd because I had just helped Adaline go to the bathroom around 11, but this cry isn't something to mess with. I got into their room and found Adaline walking in circles and saying her toe hurt, and Matthew, also doing the cry, trying to get out of his bed and looking confused. I helped them both to the bathroom and put Adaline on first because she seemed more distressed. Normally, as soon as they get on the toilet, they start to calm down, but she didn't. I switched the kids and started taking Adaline back to bed. After I put her back in bed, she was still crying and saying her toe hurt. I figured she had stubbed it or her foot was asleep, but when I looked I could see tons of blood dripping down her foot-even in the dark. She said she had fallen off her bed and I took her back to the bathroom to soak her foot in the sink and see what had happened. She started that while I got Matthew put back in bed turned on the bathroom light to found blood tracked all over the floor and dripping down the step stool. It was a similar story down the hall and in her bedroom- remember how she'd been walking in circles? I did my best to find and clean all the spots in the carpet, the bathroom and hallway floors, and the bath mat. Then I tried to see if I could understand any better what is going on with her toe. Now that the blood was mostly washed away, I could at least see the cut, but I couldn't figure out at all how it happened. I finally get her bandaged up and put in bed just as Andrew comes home at 12:30 and asks what in the world is going on. It was all so crazy that I all I could do was laugh.

Michael has been having a hard time staying in bed and falling asleep just this week. He's been in a "big kid bed" for a couple months now with no trouble, but now he says he's lonely and wants Andrew or me to sleep next to his bed. A couple of nights I've found him and Alex asleep in the crib together. It's cute and I'm glad he found a buddy to help him feel better. (And don't worry, I put him back in his own bed shortly after they fell asleep.)

On Saturday Adaline had a make-up dance class for one that she missed last week. Andrew didn't have to go into work until later so he got to hang out with us at the park while we waited for her. It was a gorgeous day and we had a blast playing soccer.

I found 2 ripe peaches on our tree recently, and now all the kids think that they are finding ripe peaches to eat. They really are not quite ripe, but they're sweet enough that the kids don't care. Alex especially loves them and will scream if one of the other kids takes his away. Luckily, he mostly only gets small bites out of them. And yes, I've told them that their stomachs will hurt if they eat them before they're ripe, but there's only so much I can do. Here's hoping they finish ripening quickly!
