The Chronicles of September

There is a good chance that this will be the last blog post before our baby comes. It's only 2 and a half weeks away (!!!) and I'm not that aggressive of a blogger. I can't even remember where I left off with our day to day happenings because there have been lots of interruptions due to catch-up posts and a very annoying kidney stone.
The baby makes a great pillow

Matthew pulled the head off of Adaline's Elsa barbie which made a very sad day for Adaline, but I think Matthew kind of loved it because then he could carry around the doll's braid without having to bring the whole body.

Reading in the fort at the library

Jumping pictures!

Adaline's feet are like half an inch off the ground and this pictures just cracks me up

I know this looks like a very random picture at Costco, but it was actually a huge deal. Matthew loves to put hair in his ear-it's his thing-and Adaline never lets him use hers, but today she was an incredibly generous big sister and let Matthew play with her hair during our shopping trip.

Aside from lots of church meetings and doctor appointments, we've managed to squeeze in a few fun things. At the beginning of the month we went to Pittsburg's "Off the Grid" food truck and live band event. We tried a couple tasty things and the kids had fun dancing around. The next day, we went to Rockin' Jump and I succeeded in only barely peeing my pants :D

Matthew took this picture while we were playing games with our friends on Sunday. Not bad!

Being a bucket head runs in the family, I guess she had no hope of overcoming it.
There's a lot of tutu wearing around here

A couple weekends ago, Andrew's mom got to come visit. We stayed busy the whole time and had a lot of fun. On Thursday, the kids and I picked her up from the airport-Adaline was SO excited-and then we picked up Andrew for a long lunch since he knew he would probably need to work late. I'm so glad we did because they were having major problems at his plant and he didn't come home until after midnight.

Andrew had Friday off, so we ventured into the city to go to The California Academy of Sciences. Matthew won tickets from the library's summer reading program, which was awesome because it's normally pretty expensive. The aquarium was my favorite part (duh!) specifically the fish that lit up, but there were a lot of cool things. We stayed pretty late and then stopped at Old Navy and P.F. Changs in Emeryville rather than sit in traffic the entire way home.

This was the biggest stingray I've ever seen

We got to see them feed the penguins

I had to take this picture for my man who carries around a zebra everywhere

Andrew said this lion was having a bad hair day-I completely agree

There was a fun kids' play area that we spent a lot of time exploring. The kids had a blast!

Running back and forth to take Gram all the delicious food she made

She eventually found her one true love, and we read them all

Andrew doing a mating dance. This is exactly how he lured me in

Trying to get in the pictures too since I'm always behind the camera

On Saturday, we had a slow morning as we all got ready for the Pittsburg Seafood and Music festival. We had been planning for a while that we would go, but I hadn't looked into it much. On Thursday, Andrew called me and asked if I wanted him to get free tickets from his work because someone was offering a few. I said YES and was so glad that came up because I didn't even know yet that we needed tickets. It was a nice day for walking around and it was fun to look at all the booths, watch the jet skiers, and try some of the food. We were all so tired when we got back that we just sat around for a little bit and then ate pizza while watching the BYU v Utah game. Gram had to leave early the next morning, but we had so much fun having her out here. Thanks for coming!!
Just a girl and her Gram, wearing coordinating clothes

bedtime and saying goodbye

A friend took this during church and it made me think, "what on earth are we going to do once we're outnumbered?"

The next day, Monday, was the start of the kidney stone week. All I really remember from the week is that I have amazing friends and that I didn't interact with my kids very much. I'm not sure what else happened that wasn't related to the kidney stone. Oh, actually at my 36 week appointment that Thursday, the midwife said I was 2cm dialated already. I wasn't at all surprised because it was similar with my other kids, this baby is incredibly low, and I had been having so many contractions that week. Baby time is quickly approaching!
From when I was still hoping it might just be a kidney/bladder/urinary tract infection.

Thank goodness they know how to entertain themselves

Matthew swallowed one of the pieces, so then we were both waiting for things to pass.

Hmm...maybe for Matthew's sake, I should be hoping this new baby is a boy because he could really use some more male influences in his life. Right now he copies everything his sister does, and she is all girl.

On that Friday, some of my good friends and I drove up to Sacramento for Time Out For Women. We got checked into the hotel, ate at Pieology, and had plenty of time to get good seats and browse the clothes, books, etc before it started. That evening we got to hear from John Bytheway and, I think, his editor in addition to Hillary Weeks. Listening to John Bytheway brings back so many memories of listening to his talks on tape as a kid. I love the way he tells stories and his general goofiness. After the conference, a few in our group went to Leatherby's for ice cream. Our waiter looked exactly like Jake Gyllenhaal and the ice cream was delicious so it was a pretty good outing!
Andrew sent me these two pictures of their Costco outing while I was in Sac

On Saturday morning, Lydia, Katie, and I walked to a delicious crepe place for breakfast. I've never had a savory crepe before, but it was amazing. It was like an omelet except so much better because the eggs in omelets always make me feel kind of sick. I think Brad Wilcox was one of the first speakers on Saturday and listening to him, for me, is very similar to how I feel about John Bytheway (we had a lot of talks on tape when I was little). David Archuleta was the musical guest for Saturday, and he was amazing. I haven't heard him perform live before and he was even better than I expected. The only other thing I really remember from Saturday's session was the other musical guest telling a story about acknowledging that some things are difficult rather than just saying "have faith" and ignoring the legitimacy of trials, and she used the phrase "this too shall pass...like a kidney stone" It was such an appropriate mantra for me that day. Ha! We headed home in the afternoon and Adaline was talking my ear off and so excited to see me when I got home. It made me realize that I'm not away from them very much at all and it's nice to get to be the one that's gone and is missed sometimes. It was fun to hear her version of all the things they did with dad while I was away. I guess Andrew should start a blog so he can tell you about the library event they went to with insects, etc from the aquarium at the bay and he can post all the pictures.
The rest of the night was all about the kidney stone, and you already know that story.
David Archuleta!!
Andrew sent me this to say that I'm much better at doing her hair, but I actually thought, "wow, he did great!"
A friend brought us dinner in this box on Sunday, so the next day Adaline filled it up with her idea of a delicious dinner that we should take the Moons. I admired her generosity and desire to serve, and I laughed at her idea of an appropriate dinner.

Monday was talk like a pirate day so, of course, we dressed up and got way too many free donuts which Andrew then took into work the next day so that we wouldn't each gain a million pounds.

A couple pictures from the rest of the week:
36 weeks and 6 days

Coloring quietly at the library. When did he grow up so much?

37 weeks and 1 day

Sometimes it's been hard having these two so close in age, but then they have days like this where they are the best playmates and I'm so happy that they are close enough to be able to play well together at such young ages. They can be so sweet!

They found two ladybugs and immediately got them to crawl up their fingers and arms and were trading them back and forth.

This past Friday, Andrew was off work, but I didn't know it until that morning, so we kept it simple by running errands and cleaning the house. That night we went to Barnes and Noble and it reminded me how much I LOVE taking the kids there because of all the hours I spent reading books there as a kid. They played with the train set, looked at books on their own, and I read them lots of books. I love that the store is decorated the same way that it has been for so long. Weird, that was kind of an unintentional B&N commercial. Sorry about that. When we got home, I went to craft with some of my friends and I'm finally getting close to having the top of Adaline's quilt finished!

Everyone has to wear a tutu and dance in this house.

Saturday, yesterday, was fun and busy. I got to go to breakfast (my favorite meal to eat out for) to celebrate one of my awesome friend's birthday. Then I got a haircut, came home for naptime and some of the BYU game, prepped food for a RS dinner, ran to (and through) Costco-I was told I shouldn't be running because of how pregnant I am, oh please-prepped the rest of the salad, and then dashed off to set up for the RS dinner. The General Women's broadcast was excellent, at least when I could turn off all the to-do lists in my head enough to pay attention, and I'm glad I got to go visit with friends and hear uplifting messages.
Don't worry, Adaline, the game wasn't worth staying awake for.

That brings us up-to-date on all the every day things. As far as pregnancy goes, not too much has changed. The baby has been sitting so low that my pelvic bone feels bruised all the time, but besides that I'm feeling pretty good. I'm really going to miss having this baby so close to me, safe, and content all the time as well as feeling all the baby kicks. Pregnancy is fun in a selfish way because I can tune into the baby and enjoy the kicks and turns when I want to/have a quiet moment, and can otherwise go about my day and not need to give the baby special attention or constant care. Is that weird to say?

Random baby things that I can't seem to form into a paragraph:
  • This baby gets the hiccups at least once a day-way more than my other kids did.
  • My mom has her flight booked to come the day before my due date since I went into labor on my due date with both other kids. The finalizing of her plans made this suddenly seem more real and quickly approaching
  • I still have a lot of things I want to get done before this baby comes, so I'm really hoping for a timely arrival and none of this 'coming early' business
  • I still want a girl more than a boy, but it scares me to say that because then I feel like I'm guaranteeing it will be a boy. I also don't want people to think that if it's a boy I wouldn't love him as much or would be disappointed or something. I'm excited for whatever kind of baby is coming our way! I just miss baby girl clothes and can't come up with any boy names that I like, but I love you either way, sweet baby!
