It's almost closer to next Christmas, but...

I still need to finish writing about last Christmas.

The day before Christmas Eve, we went ice skating. Matthew was too little, but they actually had skates in Adaline's size. She struggled so much at first, but was getting it by the end. I was so proud of her!

She wouldn't bend her knees or stand up, she just kept collapsing. It was so difficult at first and also kind of hilarious.

A picture just to prove Keller was there, and too cool for us ;)

SO much better! She didn't need all of her weight supported anymore

The good looking group of baby-sitters, on-lookers, and worn out skaters.

Aren't they hot?

And a picture just to prove I was there too

After skating, we walked across the parking lot for the delicious avocado frozen yogurt. Mmmm
I'm ready for this twosome to get together and party again

Everyone wants to snuggle uncle Keller

I can't for the life of me remember what we did on Christmas Eve. The first picture I took was of the kids already in their jammies. Maybe we did last minute shopping? We probably played some games...man, I just can't remember. Oh oh, I think we went and got cheesecake to surprise Wilson with a little early birthday celebration. Anyway...
Adaline decorated some sugar cookies and then picked out which ones to leave for Santa.

Christmas PJs!

Christmas Eve after the kids went to bed. Gifts and stockings set out, Daniel asleep on the couch already, and Home Alone on the TV.

The kids were so sick but did a good job of hanging in there to open stockings and presents.

Matthew was ready to go back to bed apparently

Oh these two

I love all the Christmas excitement in this picture

It looks like a got a picture of the exact moment Matthew got Nate sick

It was so fun getting to be with (almost) all of my family for Christmas. We missed you, Harris!
After opening presents and getting dressed, the cooking began. Anna, and everyone who helped, did an amazing job on all of the food and Anna set beautiful tables. Grandma and Grandpa Nichols came and ate with us too!

I got to be in charge of folding the napkins; after Anna told me what to do, of course
I didn't take anymore pictures for the rest of the trip, but I'll do my best to some up. After our delicious lunch, we started getting ready for the surprise 50th anniversary party for my grandparents. We sent them on a walk to "occupy Wilson because we were throwing him a surprise party" while we decorated and got out the cake. Aunt Martha's family got there and then the grandparents came back and were very surprised. We put together a book of pictures and memories to give them and they loved looking through it.
Cousins are for getting into trouble with

That night we ended up taking Adaline to an Urgent Care and getting her started on some antibiotics for the ear infection she developed from her cold. Boo. Poor baby.

The next day Wilson and Amy had to leave early in the morning (that ended up being a good thing because they wouldn't have gotten out if their flight had been that night or the next day) and we were going to go to Uncle Kent's house for lunch, but my Aunt went through chemotherapy recently and with so many of us being sick, we couldn't risk going over there. It was a huge bummer because we were all looking forward to seeing them and Adaline was so excited to see the animals. Instead we met Granny Peggy, the Nichols, and Martha's family for lunch in Glenrose. That was the only time we got to see Peggy on the trip and it was nice to have a chance to catch up for a bit. The restaurant had a big patio out back and I think the kids went and colored with sidewalk chalk before and after we ate.We walked around a cute little shop and then headed home. Andrew and I took Dave's car home and took Matthew to an Urgent Care on the way. It was his turn for antibiotics :( On our way home, the tornado sirens started going off and it was raining super hard. Thankfully, we were able to get home pretty quickly and everything was well. They got a ton of rain, but luckily no damage in their area. Sadly, it was devastating for many nearby.

The next morning we woke up to a little bit of snow outside! It melted really fast, but it was fun to see even for just a little bit. Since so many of us were sick, we all stayed home from church. We watched movies, played games, and worked on eating all the leftovers.

Monday was spent packing and cleaning up the house. Our flight wasn't until the afternoon, but we were still delayed and everything was backed up from the Saturday night tornadoes. The flight wasn't too bad, but Adaline and I both bawled during landing because our congestion made it impossible for our ears to pop. It was miserable and didn't go away until the next morning. In fact, the next weekend, Andrew and I finally went to the doctor and I had a sinus infection and ear infection with my cold and Andrew had a chesty cough he got some meds for. It took us a long time to all get better, but we eventually got there!

It was nice to get home-especially since we were all sick-but we missed everyone so much!

Enjoying being back home with his books.

Matthew is just past 14 months in these pictures and such a ham.

The kids found a great fort to play in. It's so funny because they'll pull out a chair, climb under, and then pull in all the chairs around them.

Bath time is the best time...

At the end of January, Andrew and I left the kids with the Moons and drove up to Kirkwood (near Lake Tahoe) and got to go snowboarding for 2 days! While waiting for my new snow pants to come in the mail, we got burritos from Las Panchitas then started driving up. It was so nice to go on a long drive where we didn't have to worry about bathroom stops, entertaining kids, or snacks. We did stop for Oreos because we needed to replace a cord I lost and because, well, oreos. Our room was so cute and right across from a lift. Although, we didn't know that at the time because it was so dark we couldn't even see all the giant walls of snow and the condos just past them. It was really eerie when we got there.

We had to warm up in the morning because we're old now.

The first day was fairly warm and the snow was icy. In the afternoon, it started to snow and everything felt perfect for a couple of runs. I felt just like a little kid on Christmas morning-I was so giddy!

The view from our window. Hello hours of bliss!

That night we drove just a little ways to Kirwood Inn for dinner. It was small and chilly but so delicious. They had the best fries I've ever eaten, and I'm obsessed with fries so I order them everywhere.

We each ate ALL of our food, by the way

I didn't take any pictures the next day because it rained the whole day. When we checked the forecast the weekend before, it was supposed to snow the whole second day, but it was just too warm. It was still fun, but we got completely soaked through all of our layers and couldn't quite make it the whole day before we were just too cold, so we stopped and had some hot chocolate before driving home. On the way, I texted Lydia to let her know we were coming. She was surprised and asked what was wrong. Apparently, she thought we weren't coming home until the next morning. Since we wouldn't get back until after the kids' bedtime anyway, she said we could just come get them in the morning. Thank goodness I packed them extra clothes! Since we suddenly had no reason to hurry home, we stopped at Skipolini's for pizza. I absolutely love going out to eat without the kids. It's fun to take them, of course, but it's just so relaxing when it's just the two of us. When we got home, we took a soak in the hot tub to soothe our sore muscles.

The next morning, we got some delicious breakfast sandwiches before going to get the kids. They had so much fun getting to hang out with extra kids for 3 days and were in no hurry to come home. They finished breakfast, played outside, and we pulled weeds before heading back home. It was such a fun week/weekend.

January 30th: Adaline and Matthew got their very first haircuts.

I think Matthew is trying to protect his hair from me.

Hey Adaline, do you want to go first?

"check please"

Adaline's hair was pretty easy. She was captivated by the show we turned on, and didn't need too much cut. Matthew, on the other hand, is incapable of sitting still even with a sucker and a show. It was tricky, but I think they both turned out fine. You couldn't really tell their hair had been cut so I think that's a win.

I don't have any pictures from February before Anna and Dave came, so I guess we didn't do anything. Haha! Actually the one thing I remember is that we went hiking in the Black Diamond Mines again. It's been so green and beautiful this year. We took Adaline's bike with us and Andrew and I took turns jogging while the other carried Matthew and helped Adaline. It was too hilly for Adaline to ride her bike by herself and we got tired of that pretty fast, so we put it back in the car and Andrew went for his jog while I hiked with Matthew in the backpack. Adaline was getting tired, so a carried both of them while hiking for a little bit. I felt like super woman!
