A Visit from the Worthams

For fear of forgetting a single detail about our weekend, I am going to skip ahead to right now and then go back and catch up on January (yikes, it's March!) later. Also, shout out to Anna for sharing pictures with me since I didn't take enough.

Anna and Dave got in pretty early on Friday, so we met up at IKEA to pile in the same car and then head straight into the city. Our first stop was picking up our bike rentals before heading over to the bridge. It took some of us a few minutes to remember how to ride a bike, or to learn how to ride a bike with a child sitting on the back (actually, the hardest part was getting on and off around that baby seat), but we figured it out and survived the first couple hills. Anna and Dave were starving after getting up so early way back in Texas, so we stopped at Safeway for a snack and bathroom break. Riding along the beach was beautiful, but you couldn't see the bridge even though it was right in front of us. I think Anna was getting a little stressed because it seemed like it was still a million miles away. One last giant hill and we were finally to the bridge. We still couldn't see it, but we were there!
Picking up our bikes

Aren't they the cutest?

I thought Andrew was just going to ride right up and hop in the picture with me

After yelling at all the dogs and birds, he slept through most of the ride

The rest of the ride into Sausalito wasn't too bad except for a long gradual hill just before we got downtown. For lunch we had burgers at Napa Valley Burger Co which was delicious! Anna and Dave had some very tasty looking nacho waffle fries. I've never even heard of that before! After walking around a little bit, we watched seagulls, pelicans, ducks, and even saw a couple sea lions while the kids played on the rocks, Matthew yelled "bird!" at every single bird, and both kids tried to sneak into the water.

I love when everything is green!
We took the ferry back and sadly, the fog still hadn't cleared up so we couldn't see much but it was nice to sit and chat.

We were all a little nervous how this was going to work out when we got off. Surprisingly, it was completely a non issue

Anna's jacket is the best quiet book ever.

We biked along the piers to take our bikes back and decided to walk the couple of blocks to Lombard street. We didn't realize just how steep those couple of blocks were going to be. Dang!
I don't know why they didn't offer to carry all of us. Pssh.
P.S. You can see Alcatraz in the background.

Next we walked back down to Ghiradelli Square to have giant sundaes for dinner. They were so delicious. Oh yeah, Adaline and Matthew were both mesmerized by the statue of a mermaid nursing her baby. haha

When we got home, Anna and I went to book club and I managed to make us leave around 10 or 10:30 which has got to be a record for me!

On Saturday, we had an intentionally slow morning to make sure everyone recovered from yesterday's adventures. Especially Anna and Dave since they had been up since 1:45 the day before. We went to Muir Woods first and decided to just do a nice walk to the end of the pavement and back. Andrew's parents got us a National Parks pass for Christmas, which makes it a lot easier to not feel like we have to stay as long as possible every time we go somewhere like this. Adaline loved to "hip like a rabbit" everywhere that we went. I'm not sure where she got that from (I think she said Aunt Chloe?) She also loved holding hands with Anna and Dave and having them swing her, but Anna had to be on her left and Dave on her right or she would make them switch. I think she must be a pretty clever little girl because Anna is right handed and Dave is left-handed. Adaline would get behind and then sprint to catch up over and over again.
Such a ham

Aww, we don't take many family pictures. I love my people so much!

This girl loves her shoulder rides. And her Aunt Anna

For lunch we ate at a dim som chinese restaurant in the financial district. They kept bringing food and we kept saying yes because it was all delicious. Then there was the time they brought our bill for $175 and we all kind of gasped. Delicious? Absolutely! Overpriced? Oh yeah! Hilarious? Definitely.
During our "30 minute" wait (I think it turned out to be 4 minutes) we saw a fountain where the water fell from the ceiling into this big puddle. Adaline practiced a mind-blowing amount of self-restraint and discipline. I was super impressed.

Where's Matthew?

Peek-a-boo!

Watching Andrew feed Matthew with chopsticks was adorable to me.

Anna's "teeth" were a reoccurring source of entertainment.

After lunch, we went to Union Square. (Funny story: we had told Adaline we were going to Union Square next so the whole time we were walking around, she kept crying and asking to go to Union Square. Apparently it wasn't what she expected.) We just moseyed around for a bit and then I remembered I wanted to go look for some shoes so we went to DSW and Dave and I got some new kicks. Next we had to go to Macy's so Anna could swimsuit shop since she had mentioned one time, to Adaline that she would maybe do that. Macy's was ginormous so it took us almost 30 minutesjust to find the swimsuits. Then Adaline went around picking out a bunch for Anna. It was hilarious. My favorite was Adaline taking one away from Anna because "your bum won't fit in this one" and then bringing her an even smaller one. When Anna went to try stuff on, Adaline marched off right behind her. Anna reported back that she turned around in the dressing to find Adaline buck naked trying on all the swimsuits right after her. When she came out, she was a little sad that none of the bottoms would stay on her, so she started looking for smaller ones. She found some lingerie that she thought would work nicely.

Picking out swimsuits for Aunt Anna to try on.

He found a belly button and could not pull himself away.

He's obsessed!

Next we met one of Dave's friends, who lives in Pleasanton, with his family at Boudin's. I am not a seafood person at all, but Andrew and I shared the crab and corn bisque bread bowl and it was delicious. The kids had a bit of a rough time at the restaurant after sitting in strollers and carseats all day (mostly Matthew), so it was nice when we got outside and could walk around the pier. We went by the sea lions but I don't think the kids could see them since it was too dark. Then we moseyed along the rest of the pier and I learned about the tastiest little donuts. Yum! We chatted for a while, Andrew stepped in people poop, we got the kids in their jammies, then drove home. It was a long but fun day and I think we all had a good time.
Dave's BFF and company

Anna and Dave left to go to Alcatraz just after the rest of us woke up. I'm told they had an awesome time-being in the first tour and going during the off-season was apparently fantastic. They ate at the Codmother and got ice cream at Norman's (which I haven't tried yet).

I'm not that surprised by this. ;)

After church, we let them nap when they got home and I made us some lasagna. Then Anna and Dave and the kids giggled their heads off for the next 30 or 45 minutes. There was bouncing on the air mattress, zerberts, tickles, dressing up in tutus and a game where Adaline would use the air mattress pump to blow up Anna's stomach and then unplug it and watch the air go out. She thought it was hilarious and made everyone do it, and she even took a turn herself. It was really fun watching them play and playing with them. Matthew got so hyper and was climbing and jumping on everyone and everything.

After the kids went to bed, we ended up playing games until almost midnight. We played Jeopardy, Taboo, and pictionary and things got a little out-of-hand because Anna and I revert back to acting like children when we are together apparently. We'll work on that. It was really fun though because I love playing games.

Monday morning was nice and slow. Andrew left work after just a couple hours and met us at Lumpy's for breakfast. I LOVE going out to eat for breakfast, and I bought a giftcard at Costco for 20% off ahead of time. Win!

Then we all drove to Ocean Beach and played in the sand for an hour or so. Matthew hated the waves. The first time one came up to him he immediately started crying and tried to run away, which made him trip and get completely soaked. He was so sad. I can't say I blame him of course, that water is freezing. Both of the kids sprinted the other way every time a wave came, but Adaline did it while giggling and Matthew did it while crying.

The lighting is a little funky, but I like that you can see Matthew going to town in the sand in the background.
After the beach, Anna and Dave only had a couple of hours before they needed to head to the airport, so we went to the mission district to eat at La Taqueria (we really need to start coming more than just once a year) and get some treats from King's Bakery. We walked around a little bit and enjoyed our food. Then we had to put the carseats back in our car and start saying good-bye. We all kept putting it off and it was obvious no one was ready for the weekend to be over. Anna and Dave did some final swings for Adaline and then they really had to go.
How did she get custard on her forehead?

Aww! I love it when they're nice to each other. I didn't get a picture of it, but they also shared by having Matthew take bites off the bottom while Adaline ate from the top. So cute!

The whole drive home, Adaline kept asking where Anna and Dave were and why they were going to the airport and where the airport was, and then crying as it started to sink in that we wouldn't be seeing them again for a while. We had to go to Jamba Juice when we got home to jumpstart a cleanse after all the food we ate over the weekend. Seriously, food still kind of sounds gross because we just ate SO MUCH.

We all had such a good time and I am so glad that they got to come visit us. Please come again soon; we loved having you!

P.S. Who's up next?
