An update on our lives:
- Andrew is still helping to coach soccer for a team of 9-year-olds (some friends of ours have a son on the team; it's just for fun).
- Adaline went to the dentist for the first time. I have no pictures because I ended up sitting in the chair with Adaline and Matthew both sitting in my lap.
- We finally registered our car and got CA driver licenses-SO expensive. Sheesh!
- We've started going to the storytime at the library. It's technically for kids between 3 and 5, but the younger kids' storytime is during nap time so we're doing this instead. Adaline doesn't really participate, but then she sings all the songs on the way home and talks about the books all day.
- Labor Day weekend was really fun. On Sunday, we went over to a family's house and ate cookies and talked till 9 or 10 (I can't remember, but I know it was waay past the kids' bedtime). Then on Monday we went to a different family's house for brisket and baseball and socializing. The brisket wasn't ready until a few hours after the projected time, but that just meant we got to eat more of it because not everyone was able to stay until it was ready. Mmmm so good.
- Andrew took a super quick trip to Utah to go to Ryne's wedding. He had a great time and brought home BYU souvenirs and chocolate covered cinnamon bears (yes!!). He got waffles at Bruges; spent a long time at the BYU Store; got to visit with his brother's family, his parents, and his grandma; hung out with his high school buddies, helped out with some work at his parents' house; and, obviously, got to go to his friend's wedding.
- The RS president out here started a challenge to read the Book of Mormon in 100 days. Andrew and I are still caught up so far and Andrew is even reading it in Swedish.
- Our dentist appointments finally rolled around, but they were a huge disappointment. Instead of a cleaning, it was just a consultation (that took 2 hours) and ended with them giving us a $4000 treatment plan. I know my teeth aren't great, but yikes! And no, our teeth were never even cleaned. I cancelled all future appointments that had been scheduled with their office.
- A week and a half ago, a friend of ours watched the kids while we went to the Oakland temple and then got milkshakes. It was great to get out and Andrew and I got to sit by each other!
- Last Friday, we hiked around the Black Diamond Mines a little bit, but it was way too hot to stay very long.
"Moth, where are you? We're going to catch you and have you for supper!"
Just a couple of dudes, laughing it up
Matthew being coaxed down the slide. He actually loves to go down the slide, but he waits for us to stick our heads in first.
Dad was being generous with the cheerios - Friday night I had book club. The book (The Night Circus) was great, I made a tasty cheesecake, and it lasted until 12:30-it was a good one. It is so good for me to engage in adult conversation for so long. ahh. Andrew was gone all day on Saturday for a scout merit badge...something or other...and then as soon as he got home, I left for a dinner and General Women's Broadcast. Dinner was good and the company was great. The Broadcast was awesome. I had something weighing on my mind and it was addressed SO specifically and helped me to know what to do and to feel better about it. The Lord is completely aware of my needs and loves to provide help when I ask. Afterwards we had ice cream sundaes with the tastiest salted caramel.
Matthew will be 11 months old on Sunday. Man, the time sure is flying. He hasn't gotten anymore teeth since the 3 that poked up last month. The lone tooth on the bottom kind of cracks me up. He is great at keeping up with Adaline and when he isn't running after her, he's climbing on something or going through all the cabinets. Adaline's language skills are superb. We are constantly surprised by the sentences she puts together. We also started teaching her a little ASL since we're learning it and right now she knows please, thank-you, milk, more, and finished. It's not something we're pushing, but she's been acting interested and making up her own signs ever since we started.
I wish fall would kick into gear already. Today was a "cold", rainy day and I absolutely loved it. It put me in the mood to bake and add pumpkin to everything. I got to wear and jacket and a scarf, and Adaline carried around her umbrella all day even though it only rained in the morning. We LOVE this kind of weather. But...the highs for the rest of the week are upper 80s. Serious question: If you grew up somewhere with distinct seasons and then moved somewhere more mild, how did you adjust? Did you ever get over it? I NEED the changing seasons for my mental health. Tell me it gets better!!!!!
