I wrote this at the end of August/beginning of Sept about what we did during August 14-25 :
It has taken a lot longer than I expected to get back into the swing of things after being gone for two weeks (especially since one of those weeks was unplanned), but it's been great. The highlight of the last few weeks has been having Wilson nearby. He's been at the Travis AFB doing an assignment and has had lots of off days that he was able to spend with us! He and Andrew both happened to have off the Friday after the kids and I got back so we all went into the city. Wilson's military affiliations were able to get us all into the Walt Disney museum for free. I think we all learned a lot; I liked the part where we got to do the sound effects for a cartoon and the 3D model of Disneyland back in the day. After the museum, we drove over to the Golden Gate Bridge and had a surprisingly tasty lunch at the Round House Cafe(mmm sourdough bread bowls). Then we looked at the displays to learn about suspension bridges and what makes the GGB such a big deal. I really liked that part! Next we walked out a little past the first tower of the bridge and I learned that Wilson is terrified of heights, which is pretty funny since he's a pilot, though he claims it's totally different. :D We had done a lot of walking by this point, so we decided to head home. Dinner was ready for us ready for us when we got home and, after putting the kids to bed, we got to chat with Wilson for a nice, long time. We also played Ticket to Ride. On Sunday, Wilson came down after church and we talked while the kids napped, had nachos for dinner, and then played Spot It and Trivial Pursuit. I love family time.
These two became such pals
Remember that time I photoshopped a picture of us to make it look like we were in front of the GGB? Well here's the real deal!
#artsy
M just couldn't take anymore
Adaline is quite the entertainer
She was running and dancing and shaking her booty all over the place
On Friday, Andrew had to work and I had to take the car in for an oil change, so Wilson met us at the appointment and took us over to the park so that we didn't have to wait there. Then we came home and put the kids down for naps and talked about routers and chromecast and sequoias and buying cars and so many other things. When the kids woke up, we played outside and went to the park. The Wilson had to leave because he was flying the next day, our babysitter came, and Andrew and I got to go to our first A's game, courtesy of the wonderful Millers, with Spencer, Megan, and one of Spencer's friends. The A's lost, but things almost turned around at the end which kept it exciting. It was a lot of fun to get out.
The Tuesday before Wilson had to leave, I drove the kids up to Fairfield to visit him at work. He was able to show us around on his jet (he flies the KC-135). I won't lie, it was pretty awesome. It was kind of hard to imagine that he knows what all of those buttons and dials and levers and meters mean/do. Adaline hasn't stopped talking about airplanes since we went. She thought it was so cool! After the long walk back from the jet (which doesn't look nearly as long as it is since some of the jets are big enough to carry full size helicopters), we went to the on-base bowling alley for a surprisingly tasty lunch (thanks Wilson!). After lunch we walked around some much smaller, old airplanes just for fun. Then Wilson had to get back to work. We loved getting to hang out with him and see some of what he does!
Maybe one day her feet will reach the pedals
"can I please touch all the buttons?"
Getting instructions on how to operate the boom
I seriously love this picture
She needed some extra oxygen
They were a little bit crazy while we waited for Wilson to take care of something back at his hotel
Isn't this the cutest??
She's such a ham. But she's my little ham and I love her guts
We miss you, Uncle Wilson!
Oh, and just for fun, here's a video of Adaline trying to say "hammock" from when we were in Logan.
