6 months of Matthew

I started this post a few weeks ago with the intention of giving an update on Matthew. It might be slightly old news now, but here we go.

At Matthew's 6 month check up he was 26 inches and 13 lbs 12 oz (before eating) and 14 lbs 1 oz (after eating). That's exactly the same size Adaline was at that age. This is great news because for a while there he was even smaller than Adaline was (at his age). His doctor wasn't content, however, and she recommended that he see a GI specialist about his incessant spitting up. This is MUCH more easily said than done though, and I have made so many phone calls to insurance, Matthew's doctor, the GI specialist, and they have called each other. I don't know why they can't get it figured out, but we're still trying to make an appointment. In the mean time, Matthew is still taking the lactase, taking a probiotic, taking reflux meds, and I no longer eat dairy (worst thing ever! Seriously, if you've gone through this, please contact me and tell me that he'll grow out of it and we call all eat cheesecake together one day). He had gotten so much better when he first started taking the lactase drops. He was happier, spitting up less (still a lot, but less), started napping better, and was more active. He is still better than he was two months ago, but I think he still has some issues that could be solved. He finally seems to be getting some chub in his cheeks and I think it's mostly from eating solids. He eats a pretty big portion 4 times a day and usually spits up less of the solids than milk-though we still get showered with carrots/bananas/oatmeal/peas even hours after he's eaten them. He really loves eating solids though! He always cries when it's over-even when he's very clearly telling us that he's full, he's still sad about it.
We (almost) have a booster/high chair for M now which is so much easier than feeding him in the bumbo. Notice how Andrew's hand his right by his foot? That's because Matthew can scoot across the table while in the bumbo. He's such a goofball

Giving Matthew the lactase drops makes us a lot less flexible because he has to have it in a bottle with some milk before he nurses and he REFUSES to drink milk that isn't perfectly steamy. It's a bummer that this is the medicine that seems to help him the most. He also goes through a $15 bottle in about two weeks, so it's getting kind of pricey. No one ever said kids were convenient I guess.

When I started this post, Matthew was still "leaping" to get around. He'd get on all fours, pull his knees forward, then leap forward with his hands. He has the standard crawl down now, but occasionally mixes in a bear crawl when he's on the hard floors(on his hands and feet) which is so adorable. He has also gotten really good and pulling himself up to his knees or all the up to his feet and taking a couple steps side to side or to get closer to whatever he pulled himself up on. He looks so big all the time now. My little guy is growing up! Matthew's recent mobility advances have made him and Adaline much better friends. She loves to hurry away from him or let him "attack" her when he's crawling toward her and she just giggles her head off. At night they often chat with each other for a while before they fall asleep and in the morning I often see Adaline standing by Matthew's crib talking to him and Matthew has pulled himself up on the crib so he can talk to her too. It's really sweet and I'm so glad they have each other.
He accidentally turns this on all the time and he loves it!

He's going down...

And mom still took one more picture...

With Matthew having all these stomach issues, I am so glad that he sleeps well! He has slept from 7pm-7am for the last few months (he doesn't always sleep that long, but that's typically when I put him to bed and get him up. He might happily play in his crib/talk to Adaline for a chunk of that time.)
He's also taking much better naps now. In fact, he must get behind on sleep sometimes because there have been a few days when he has taken 2 3-hour naps. I love it, but I can't get out of the house those days because Matthew naps 9-12, Adaline naps 12-2 or 3, Matthew naps 2:30-5:30. On those days, Andrew has come home to find the furniture all moved around. :D

Matthew loves books. He likes it when I read to him, but he also really wants to eat the pages and jump up and down in my lap (he is NEVER still). This drives Adaline crazy because she could sit and read all day and she hates Matthew messing with her books (okay, she hates when he messes with anything of hers).

Matthew is wearing a huge range of clothing. He has 0-3 mos. onesies (the sleeves are finally too short so I need to put those away) the 6-9 or 9 mos. sleepers fit him best because they're longer even though the waist is huge but he's still wearing some 6 mos ones. Pants...oh man I really hate pants. If they fit his waist, they're too short and if they fit in length, he will definitely crawl right out of them. I put a stitch in each side of one pair of his pants because the length was great and I really wanted him to be able to wear them. Even after sewing them up a little, they're still super loose.

I walked into Adaline's room and asked her to come eat breakfast. This is what she was doing and she said, "too busy, mom, too busy."

Andrew is too cute. He really fills in for the kids' lack of appreciation on Mothers' Day. He did a great job of letting me know how grateful he is for me. I got to take a nap, I didn't made dinner or breakfast (to be honest, he typically makes breakfast every morning he's home), I got to skype with Amy/Wilson and Anna/Dave while he entertained the kids...It was a really good day. I am really lucky to have such wonderful kids and to have a husband to makes me feel like I'm doing a good job being their mom.
