First, a couple of random, pre-trip pictures:
I never thought I would visit Texas in July and think that the weather was a relief, but that's exactly what happened.
On Tuesday, I picked Andrew up from work and we headed west. Adaline was doing great but started to get fussy about an hour before we wanted to stop. Andrew entertained her by dressing her baby doll over and over again so that she could undress her and suck on her toes (don't ask me) and we made it to Nachitoches or something. After a long dinner and getting Adaline ready for bed, we got back in the car and she slept until 11:30 when we got to Granny Peg's house. Naturally grandma wanted to stay up and chat, so we did, until around 1am. Whoo!
On Wednesday we sat around the house visiting, walked around outside, and tried to keep Adaline from getting into too much trouble. We planned to go to the street dance that night, but when we got there grandma realized that it was actually the next day. We all had a good laugh and went back home and played rummikub instead.
Thursday we headed to Glen Rose to see Martha's clan. Adaline was so overwhemled by the other kids at first, but soon loved it. After lunch we went to the Granbury lake and splash pad. Grandma Nichols met us there and we all had a blast getting some sun, digging in the sand, and running through the fountains. When we got home, grandpa met us for dinner and drove us down the street in the back of his truck to see some fireworks. The party didn't end until 10:30, but you wouldn't know it from looking at Adaline, she was having too much fun to be tired.
Happy Fourth of July! We first went to the Granbury parade which was great except that they hardly had any candy, and I didn't get any...bummer. Then we had some delicious barbecue with grandma's church. Then we headed out to walk around the vendors at the square. I don't usually buy stuff in these situations, but I did find a purse that I really loved and it came home with me. After one loop, we were all so hot and sweaty that we headed home as fast as we could. For dinner Kent and his gang came over for brisket, cheesecake, and lemon pie (all homemade of course). We all ate so much food we were sick, but man was it good. That night, after they left, we watched a movie about Dr. Ben Carson who separated the siamese twins.
On Saturday we met Anna and Dave and the Dallas Science Museum. It was crazy busy, but I didn't notice it too much once we were inside. One of the floors had tons of experiments to try out. They also had an awesome play area for kids with tons of pretend play things like a campsite and grocery store-of course Adaline slept through this and then woke up as soon as we left...little rascal. There was also a piano staircase which was fairly entertaining. After the museum, we walked over to the food truck park and sampled a few different things. It was all delicious! The park was really awesome and the only bad part was when Adaline fell backwards out of her chair and hit her head on the concrete. Everyone rushed to help us by giving advice, bringing cold water, and bring ice. She ended up being fine, but it must have really hurt. Next we got the famous Avocado Tart frozen yogurt (and a few other flavors) which were yumilicious (get it, cause that was the name of the place we got it). To finish off the night, we went swimming at Dave's parents, had pizza, and stayed up talking in the media room.
The next day we went to church, had a quick and delicious lunch, and headed back to LA. Dave's parents were really nice and let us stay with them so that we wouldn't have to back track by going back to Granbury the night before we left. This worked out really well and we were able to make it home with only one 10-minute stop in Shreveport. It was a busy, fun, and successful trip. Win!
One of Adaline's favorite places to play is on mom and dad's bed |
First time I've seen an egg with two yokes! |
More experiments in the land of doing little girl hair |

These two became friends quickly |

Who knew the middle of Dallas would have a nice park like this? |
You can just barely see a truck or two through the trees, but we had quite a few options |
They even had some fountains that Anna and I were tempted to get in |
