We are busy and life is good

Ya better buckle up, 'cause I typed a whole bunch...and then I looked through my pictures and remembered the other half of the things that happened.

So next there was real Halloween. In the morning we did the Pittsburg 5k. We dressed up like USA soccer players (our go to easy/comfy costumes) and taped a soccer ball to the stroller to try and make it look like we were kicking a soccer ball the whole way. Side story: we went to WinCo on the way home and someone asked us about us both playing soccer and seemed so impressed-haha we are not US soccer players in real life. Anyway, it was super fun and our time wasn't even too bad. We ran into the Croskeys there and they treated us to pancakes while we hung out afterwards. They are so awesome.
Next, we went to the party at our apartment clubhouse and won a popcorn popper for best costumes! I'd be more excited, but there were like 7 other people dressed up there, so...but the popcorn has been delicious. Then we went to the Moons for food and trick or treating. The kids had a blast. This was actually Matthew's very first Halloween and I'd say he had a great time. We hung out talking way too late after we got back and the kids were losing their minds, but we all loved it.
With it still being pretty hot, we waited until just a couple days before to carve our pumpkin

Matthew through pumpkin guts all over the kitchen. He thought it was hilarious

She got soaking wet and covered in sand after the race, but she loved it so I guess it's fine

She couldn't go into WinCo naked so we put on a 9 mos onesie from the diaper bag. Ha!

This one is from the previous weekend, but it's too cute to leave out

We came home and tossed the kids to bed and then ate all their candy. Which is why we can't do the Jimmy Kimmel "I told me kids I ate all their Halloween candy". That's exactly what we do; why would we ruin it by telling them?

Andrew's parents came to town on Matthew's Birthday. They got in at dinner time and after we put the kids to bed, we played the jeopardy game we made up back in March. The next day I took them to the Jelly Belly factory. On the way home we had to stop at Matthew's new doctor (who was awesome, btw. Thanks to everyone who recommended this office!). Then I dropped Alan off on a street corner-I'm not rude, he just really likes walking-so that he could go visit Andrew's work. Deborah, the kids, and I went back to the house to finishing making Matthew's cake, decorate, and make dinner. Matthew loved his cake even though the dairy free frosting looked very strange. A few days later, Adaline found the party hats and decorations I had purchased for his party...dang it. Anyway, Adaline had tons of fun opening all of Matthew's presents for him and he didn't mind at all since he had so many cool new things to play with.

She LOVES the Jelly Belly Factory and was SO excited to show it to Gram and Grandpa

This "whipped topping" has a such strange consistency. I hope Matthew learns to eat dairy soon. I was going to write "Thing" so that with the candle it would say, "Thing 1" but I ran out of black icing. Oh well!

I apologize for the mass amount of baby eating a cake pictures, but how could I say no to any of them?

hahahaha

They were both quite happy with this arrangement

Grandpa snuggles, birthday balloon, new teddy bear and train-what a good life

How he really feels about taking pictures with mom

Andrew had the next day off of work so we all went to Muir Woods. Sadly, we have another child who gets carsick-Matthew got increasingly cranky and then threw up while driving there. Hiking was really fun and hiked around a new loop in addition to walking along the boardwalk. I think we all learned some new things about Redwoods. After having our packed lunches, we drove a few more miles to an overlook of the GG Bridge. It's still crazy that we can be hiking in the middle of a dense forest and there is a huge city just a few miles away. That night we finally tried Chef J's pizza for dinner and it was fantastic.
Sadly, this is the closest thing I have to a group shot from the whole time they were here.

Matthew snoozed through most of it-just like the last time we came back when we was 3 months old

He is always running away form me these days

That looks so uncomfortable, but she slept like that almost the whole way home

They next day we went to Lumpy's for breakfast. For maybe the second time in my life I ordered well and wasn't even tempted to try anyone else's food. Mine was exactly what I wanted and so delicious. Afterwards we walked around the marina and threw rocks into the water. Then we went back to the house so the kids could nap and the Glenns could pack and head home. It was so fun having them visit. Thanks for coming, guys!

Andrew recently was called to be the ward choir pianist, in addition to the 11-yr-old scouts leader. It was really funny because I decided that we should go to choir and on the way in Andrew got asked if he could quickly meet with a member of the bishopric. On the way home he told me about his new calling. I was so glad that I had decided we should go that same week or I might have felt like it was inconvenient or difficult since we only have one car and the kids nap as soon as we get home. Since I had already decided it could work for us to stay for choir, it was much easier to accept.

Lydia and I had been planning to can some apple pie filling ever since she fed us some apple crisp and mentioned that she had used up her last jar. Using the internet, we calculated that we needed 80 pounds of apples. We spent about 6 hours canning 30 quart jars and had only used ONE of the 40 pound boxes. So she came again on Monday and we canned another 25 quarts. Haha I was aiming to end up with 12 jars, but instead I have like 26. I think I'll be good on apple pie filling for a while. So fun though!
We had a good time with this crew at the Veteran's Day ceremony and parade in Antioch.

One Sunday Andrew had mentioned to me that there was an Elder's Quorum game night planned for the upcoming Saturday. When the day arrived, I was in a little bit of a bad mood, and when Andrew asked if I wanted to go I scoffed and rolled my eyes. "Why would I want to go to an ELDER'S QUORUM game night?" Andrew looked so confused, then said, "It's for elders and their families" "oh" We had a good number of laughs over that and how it really could have been explained more clearly. Anyway, we went and it was super fun. We really love our ward out here. I also learned that I need to read more and brush up on my history and geography, otherwise I'll continue to look very stupid when I plan Scattergories.

The next day, the Ainges had us over for dinner. Adam and Andrew know each other from high school and they took lots of Chemical Engineering classes together. They'd been living in Houston before recently moving out here. Anyway, there family is awesome. Their oldest is about 5 months older than Adaline and their twins are about 5 months younger than Matthew. They had so much fun all playing together, except maybe the twins who really wanted Matthew to stop hug/tackling them. The hug tackles were so adorable and completely out of love though. It was a great evening full of visiting and watching the kids play with legos, reading books, and good food.

The following Friday was so much fun for this social addict. Andrew was home so we went to the park and played soccer for a while before the kids' naps. Once the kids got up, I dropped Andrew off at the mall to do some Christmas shopping and went to Amber's for a "playdate". Then I went straight to visiting teaching at Liz's where we all chatted for almost an hour and a half. Next I picked up Andrew and some Costco hot dogs, dropped everyone off at home, and went to book club until 11. These kind of days go a long way to recharge me. I love it!

On Saturday, Andrew's work friend some people over for Indian food. His parents are from India and they obviously did a great job teaching him how to cook. It was all so good! It was fun to chat with everyone, but I was reminded of how lucky we are to have such good friends within the church.

For Thanksgiving, we went to the park and played soccer in the morning and then headed to the Millers after our kids woke up from their naps. It's fun to have a little bit of Andrew's family out here and we had a great time visiting while the girls took turns entertaining the kids. Thanks for having  us; we had a great time!

After we got home, I headed over to the Moons' house for "just a few minutes" to "plan out our black friday strategy". Okay so I stayed till almost eleven and we mostly just talked about Thanksgiving and random things-and it was great. In the morning, Kristyn, Krissy, and Lydia picked me up at 6-because we're not crazy! I had already shopped at two stores online buy the time we made it to the first store :D I was surprised by how many people weren't out shopping. I guess so many stores open on Thanksgiving now, that's when the rush hits. I think we were the only customers in Old Navy when we first got there. It was awesome! We had such a fun day that included lunch at Red Robin and spending far more than I anticipated. Then I hung out with the Moons for a few more hours while I waited for Andrew to come pick me up.

The next morning, while Andrew was playing basketball, I asked Adaline what she and Andrew did the day before and she said, "We went to Target and bought your nail polish." Hahaha, as it turns out, it's difficult to keep Christmas secrets with this 2-yr-old. Later I picked up Lydia so we could get some 60% off flannels of course! We got tickets for the cut counter as soon as we walked in and had our numbers called a little over two hours later. It was crazy, but it gave us the perfect amount of time to pick out our fabric.

I think I've been converted to black friday shopping. Once my bank account recovers, I'm totally ready for next year.

Since this post is already monstrous, I'll just mention that the kids are alive and well. Matthew just growth spurted into 18 mos and, very occasionally, 2T clothes. Adaline is saying prayers completely on her own. Matthew has figured out that signing can get us to do what he wants and he's starting to pick it up. It's such a blessing because the only word he says is "mom" and other than that it's a lot of screaming and babbling. Adaline loves going to storytime at the library and Matthew loves to torture all the kids there (pulling hair, climbing into other kids' strollers while they're in it, chewing on the toys, stealing puppets, wriggling his way into the librarian's lap while she's reading). Adaline gets excited to see her friends each week and I even saw her holding hands with her friend while they were doing one of the dances. Adaline and Matthew are so affectionate with each other and it makes me so happy. They are really great kids even if they are also completely crazy.

The random pictures that don't fit anywhere:
Those eyes

Adaline is becoming quite the photographer...she almost gets all of her subject in the picture

They would love it if it rained every day.

Adaline skipped her nap one day and later I let her have maybe 3 pieces of Halloween candy. At 5:30 she asked me to pick up her and her blanket and she fell asleep almost immediately while I was still walking around. When Andrew came home I put on her pull-up and put her bed. She slept till 7 or 8 the next day.

It's about time. Happy December 2nd!
