June hip hop happenings

Matthew says "mom"!!!! He also might have said "dad" once or twice, but we aren't positive. I forgot to put that in my last post, so I wanted to make sure I didn't forget. And just for fun, I'll jot down that he's mostly wearing 9 mo clothes because his 6 month stuff just got too short.

June started out slow so I felt like I should wait to blog and then suddenly so many things had happened. First there was my birthday. Nothing crazy, but Andrew made me carrot cake and set up a surprise (for me) pedicure for me and Carolyn. Since the guys were watching the kids, we took full advantage of the situation and roamed Target for a while afterward.

We went to a birthday party for Andrew's good friend from work, Alex, who actually just stopped working there and went back to school :( Adaline had fun playing on the swing set and trying to swing at a baseball. It was fun to get out and do something different.

Dad and Daniel drove out to pick up some meat rabbits... They got in at 4am on Friday. After the slept for a couple hours, we took the kids and went to Sky High Sports for some jumping. Daniel loved the dodgeball, Matthew managed to pee all over the place despite wearing a diaper the entire time (the teenagers next to me looked shocked), and Adaline loved everything. After jumping, we had huge lunches at Mimi's Cafe. When we got home, we only had a couple hours before we needed to meet the missionaries at IHOP to feed them dinner. I felt a little bad that half of us weren't eating, but we were stuffed. That night, Dad, Daniel, Andrew, and I played a few rounds of Taboo. The next morning, they headed out early to get their rabbits and get back home. It was a quick visit, but we felt like we made the most of it. I loved getting to see them!

Strategy meeting?

I went to the zoo with the kids and two other moms and their kids (plus a few extras-haha that sounds bad). We had 3 adults and, I think, 12 kids. Adaline and Matthew loved it because they got so much attention.

Matthew actually does have hair. And it looks awesome after I put sunscreen on his head.

They have an awesome playground

Such a beautiful, magical thing

One Saturday, we helped out with a yard sale which was really more fun than it was work. That night we went swimming and had dinner with two of the families doing the yard sale and it was so fun! We are lucky to have such great friends here who have welcomed us in so quickly.

A couple weeks later, Keller came! He and two of his friends drove out on a Thursday. They got here fairly late and spent most of the next day exploring San Francisco. They said they had a great time minus their car troubles that caused them to have to skip GG Bridge. They got home just as we were leaving for our ward "sock hop" and they looked exhausted. The ward party was lots of fun. There wasn't a huge turnout, because of the 4th of July, but we had a good time. I especially loved watching Adaline dance with all the other little kids. They were adorable.
While Keller and his friends worked on the car and swam the next day, Andrew and I took the kids over to Concord for the parade and festivities. We caught a small bit of the parade and then realized that the "carnival" started 4 hours later instead of right when the parade ended. As we were making our way to the playground to try and stall until then, Adaline somehow cut her finger near the wheel of the stroller. She screamed and cried for a solid ten minutes. We were trying to hold her still enough that we could get the bleeding under control, but she was hysterical. Blood was literally going everywhere and every time we got a bandaid on her, she would rip it off. By the time we got her calmed down and to the point where she would leave the bandaid alone, everyone who had been sitting remotely near us had cleared out because we clearly could not keep our child under control. Oh well. Once the situation had calmed down a bit, we decided we should take her to the doctor just to make sure she didn't need any stitches or at least some glue to hold things in place while it healed. Luckily we were only a half mile for the urgent care and got in pretty quickly. I am so thankful for wonderful nurses who are patient with kids. We were so lucky. The doctor decided that maintaining a good bandage job would be good enough, had the nurse wrap her up, and sent us on our way. We decided to call it a day so we bought slurpees and a redbox and went home. We chatted with Keller and his friends while they swam for a bit and just had a chill evening.

Oh yeah, Adaline is potty trained.

The next day, they came to sacrament meeting and then headed out. They didn't even make it out of CA before the car broke down and they had to be towed to Reno. Once there, they sold it and made their way back to UT on the bus. Poor guys.
That night we had dinner with family from the ward. Adaline LOVES their kids. It's lucky that we get to see them a lot. We had a great time visiting, eating delicious food, and talking about how to make the sacrament more meaningful each Sunday. We loved it.

We've had so many fun little things going on lately that I recently made the comment to Andrew that we had "arrived in real life." On Sunday we had our neighbor over to play Rummikub; on Monday, I baby-sat one of Adaline's friends in the morning and that night we had over a new couple in the ward and we played Farkle, chatted, and ate cookies; on Tuesday, we had the missionaries over for dinner and then Andrew was supposed to go coach soccer (he didn't make it in time because of dinner, but still); Wednesday was park day in the morning and then Andrew had scouts at night....Our lives have never been busy in this way before. Don't get the wrong idea, we're enjoying it. We love feeling like we fit into a community and that we're involved and have friends (and ones who are good at planning and making things happen!!).
Recently, we were sitting at church waiting for the meeting to start and Andrew was asked to help pass the sacrament. Adaline freaked out and started screaming and crying. Instantly, Lydia came to take Matthew so that I could comfort Adaline and help her calm down. Later, when I had to take Adaline out, someone who didn't see that Matthew was being held asked if I needed her to go take care of him for me. Our whole ward is always looking out for our kids. everyone holds Matthew and plays with Adaline, we definitely feel like we're building a family out here. I have no reason to expect otherwise, but I hope we get to stay her for a long, long time.
