Christmas-y Things

Oh boy, the plan here is to do a few regular sized posts to catch rather than one giant give-you-a-headache-if-you-read-the-whole-thing post. We'll see how that goes.

I believe I left off just after Thanksgiving. What a glorious time of year that is. We went to the Barrows house for a Christmas party and went caroling around their neighborhood. It was super fun and I tradition I think I'd like to start. Andrew finished his classes so we went to Maceys for an ice cream cone. The next week Andrew took his last final EVER and we went to Five Guys to celebrate since we were nearby at Coscto, also celebrating with their ice cream.

Andrew's dad invited us to his work Christmas party. Adaline had never met Santa before, but she wasn't scared of him.

She and Andrew got to make some crafts together while we were there. Oh and Andrew had a soccer game right before this that we all went to.

This looks like a Maceys commercial

Our awesome neighbor helped Adaline and one of her nursery friends decorate gingerbread houses!

She wants to be just like Daddy

Reading books with Isaac. She definitely misses her cousins.

Adaline LOVED getting to poke out the advent calendar each day.

Christmas dress (thanks Gram!)

These two are already great friends. Adaline is legitimately good at calming him down and getting him to smile. She loves to pat his head and give him hugs and kisses.

Adaline has become quite the little mommy. She got her bunny dressed and then tucked him into bed.

She also learned to climb out of her crib so now she sleeps in a "big girl" bed and it's a lot better than I expected it would be.

She likes to mimic what I do with Matthew with her stuffed animals.

Acting out the nativity

For Christmas Eve, we went down the Andrew's parents' house. The AA Glenns came as well and we had fun putting out the luminaries, eating, and acting out the Christmas story.

Yup, Andrew is wearing a little girl's dress for the nativity presentation.

We spent Christmas Day at home this year and it was a lot more fun than I anticipated. Andrew and I had so much fun setting up and finishing wrapping Christmas presents the night before and Matthew even fell asleep in his swing so that we could both work on everything together! In the morning, we could hardly wait for Adaline to wake up. We brought her out and showed her her stocking and shopping cart with groceries that we got her. She seemed a little shocked and just stood, staring and then pointed to the $1 coloring book set up by the top of her stocking and shouted, "book". Andrew and I laughed so hard because of course the cheapest thing would be her favorite. Then she turned around and noticed all the fresh snow outside and yelled, "snow" in the highest pitched voice I've ever heard. Adaline also loved eating the goodies from her stocking.

Matthew was born too close to Christmas for his Stocking to be finished in time, so we improvised. Also, his quilt was neither finished nor intended to be a Christmas present, but it made his corner of the couch look less lonely. (By the way, I just finished it this morning!!!!!!)

After breakfast, we waited for Andrew's parents to drive up and open presents with us. With 6 people, and Adaline doing most of the opening, it took us a long time to get everything opened, but it was so fun. We have so many wonderful people that love us and we felt very spoiled this Christmas. :D Thank you!

After Gram and Grandpa left, I found myself with a migraine and Andrew watched the kids so that I could take a nap. It was a bummer because we REALLY wanted to play in the snow with Adaline, but at least it didn't ruin the whole day. After I got up, we headed down to the Glenns for Christmas dinner. We miss being so close to family, and we're glad we got to spend so much time with everyone before we left.

The next day, we headed up to Logan to see what my family was up to. Grandma Peggy, Keller, Harris, Anna & Dave, and Wilson & Amy (plus Nate) had all gotten there before us. We had such a good time! It was one of my favorite family get-togethers. It started off a little rocky because mom was insistent that we take a family picture. After many failed attempts, they say we got a decent one. (Turns out that was a lie and they had to do some head copy and pasting in order to get a good one.) Matthew and Nate are just 6 days apart and they had so much fun playing together! (not really because they were 1.5 months old, but they did look adorable in their snowsuits together and Nate shared his bath stuff with Matthew) I can't remember the order of things, and I didn't take a single picture, but here are some highlights:

  • Amy and I spent lots of time talking about babies, sleep, spit up, breastfeeding, etc. I LOVE that one of my siblings is a parents now and that I have someone at family reunions who is going through the same stages of life. The first time I met Amy, she was the older sister of one of my friends/someone I ran into at church during semester breaks/a friend of some of my friends, never in a million years did I think she and I would be having these conversations down the road but I love it!
  • We played lots of games during this party. Spontuneous, the name game, pandemic, mafia. The funny thing about mafia is that Daniel was begging and begging to play it but we all said we didn't want to. Eventually we said we'd play one game of it just to appease him...five hours later we found ourselves still playing and we played the next night too. Haha go Daniel!
  • Adaline played in the snow with Daniel and Chloe a few times-they said she loved it
  • Adaline entertained us by dancing to Shake It Off and pointing to each of us and telling us to shake it off too
  • Finding out the my 83 year old grandma has had a smart phone for 6 months (that sure made me feel behind)
  • The boys went and shot shotguns because Wilson got one for his birthday and was being very generous.
  • Anna, Dave, mom, Granny Peg, and I went "antiquing" but found ourselves enjoying DownEast Home the most.
  • Wilson and Amy stayed an extra day because of bad weather and while it was a bummer, it was also awesome!
  • On Tuesday (I think) we drove down to SLC and walked around the City Creek mall. We planned to walk around temple square and look at the lights, but it was freezing so we just went back to the hotel. That night was a little bit rough because Adaline didn't go to sleep until 11 and that was only because I held her in her bed until she fell asleep-it was just too exciting to share a room with mom and dad and Matthew!
